Emotional moment as man discovers he can officially adopt his beloved foster dog

There are families who are do dog fostering while waiting for their forever home. And this is one of those stories with the sweetest ending.

If you are a dog-owner, could you ever imagine abandoning your pup? If you truly loved your pet, then the answer would be a huge no.

But the sad reality is this: not all people who own animals genuinely care for them, which is why cases of dog abandonment continue to prevail around the world.

This is exactly what happened to the dog in this story, Toby, whose owner threw him out of the streets in South Korea.

Just imagine the danger that he faced then, wandering the streets all alone. What made this situation even more terrifying was the fact that South Korea is notoriously known for its dog-meat trade.

Thankfully, Toby found his way into an auto repair shop. The shop owner took pity on him and surrendered him to a shelter for possible dog fostering.

It was the dead of winter during that time, and sadly, the shelter had no room for Toby. The poor dog had to stay in an outside kennel most of the time, fighting the harsh, winter cold.

Eventually, Toby was rescued by Band For Animal, an organization that was committed to saving dogs from being victimized by the dog-meat trade and other terrible situations.

Toby stayed in the rescue’s safe house in South Korea before he was flown to the U.S., where he was quickly assigned to a foster family – a family who had no clue how much they would come to love this new dog in their life.

Ann Hoang desired to add a second dog in their family, but her husband was doubtful that they could handle another one, so they tried dog fostering first to see if it would work.

The plan was that if it went well, they would adopt another rescue dog of their own.

When Toby arrived in their home, he was completely scared and insecure. He wouldn’t come out of his crate and when he did, he didn’t sit or lie down, instead, he would just stand and stare at his foster parents.

The Hoangs remained patient with Toby, showering him with lots of love and attention as his little body could handle.

Gradually, when the dog realized that he was safe in this new environment, his behavior changed and he began acting like a regular, happy pup.

Toby fell in love with his new home, most especially with foster his dad.

“At first, my husband was unsure of Toby because he was very timid and also this was our very first foster experience. However, by the [first] evening, Toby had sat down next to my husband and he looked up at him with his puppy dog eyes, and my husband saw the kindness of God in Toby’s face. Toby seemed to attach to my husband pretty quickly from there on out.”, Ann said.

Once he got comfortable, Toby’s real personality began to shine through. Everyone in the family was smitten with him. He and the Hoangs’ other dog Charlie, bicker and cuddle like they’ve known each other forever.

Even after just a week, it became clear to them that Toby fits perfectly with their family. The initial plan of fostering him for just a while and adopting another rescue dog of their own now became unthinkable, especially for Ann’s husband.

Ann shared: “We had two families who wanted to schedule a meeting with Toby, and when that happened, I just realized how crushed my husband would be without him. It had only been one week but my husband and Toby were inseparable. My husband is such a giving person, always putting others before himself. He’s never really asked for anything or wanted anything badly. Toby was the first experience where I could see he would be heartbroken without him.”

Ann decided that she was going to officially adopt Toby as a surprise for her husband. She called the rescue to let them know, and they were so thrilled and eager to help Ann with her plan.

Since it was custom for the rescue to send someone to do a home check prior to adoption, Ann decided to tell her husband that it was a potential adopter coming to visit Toby.

Ann handed the rescue staff a card to give to her husband during the visit. The man carefully read it and when he realized what was going on, he broke down into tears and couldn’t seem to stop them from flowing.

“Oh my goodness, I thought he would be happy but never in a million years did I think he would cry so much. I have never seen him react this way to anything before! He is sensitive but this was more than I’ve ever seen.”, Ann recalled.

Emotions were high as everyone in the room began to weep, including the person from the rescue.

Toby, looking all confused and worried, sat by his dad to comfort him, but what he didn’t understand was that his favorite human was crying because they would get to keep him forever.

With that kind of reaction, we’re certain that Toby will be immensely loved in his forever home.
