People have been drinking red wine since 6000 B.C. Although the red wine has been around for ages, still a lot of people are not aware of the benefits it gives to our health. Since red wine is made by crushing and fermenting dark-colored whole grapes, it is a rich source of antioxidants and polyphenol as well.
Aside from red wine being a popular alcoholic beverage that is good for the heart, did you know that a red wine is also good for those who are trying to lose weight?
New study shows that drinking a glass of red wine a day helps you lose the extra-pounds your body would like to shed!
According to a research conducted in Washington State University and Harvard Medical School, the classic red wine contains a polyphenol known as ‘resveratrol.’ A resveratrol acts like an antioxidant that protects the body against damages.
The resveratrol converts our white fats into ‘obesity-fighting’ beige fat that is a lot easier for the body to break down. This wonderful antioxidant-like agent also suppresses ones appetite, so drinking red wine before going to bed might help you not give-in to your midnight snack cravings as well!
Also, if you are not a fan of red wine, you can still reap the same benefits by munching on blueberries and peanuts, for both contains high level of resveratrol as well!
In a different study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine last year 2010, those women with normal-weight who drink one glass of red wine a day, are less likely to become overweight or obese.
A separate study conducted for the Women’s Health Initiative last year 2012, also observed that women who drink red wine moderately are more likely to maintain a healthy weight than those who are non drinkers.
It is also noted by the author of how much wine protects women from weight gain better than other liquor and beer.
But before you start drowning yourself with red wine, please keep in mind that anything that is taken too much, is not and will never be good for your health. Be sure that you will only drink the moderate amount of red wine, which is two glasses for men and one glass for women.
Consuming alcoholic drinks beyond the recommended moderate level will surely lead to liver inflammation, spike in your blood pressure, and increase in your risk of acquiring cancer.
Don’t forget that the study only shows how drinking a glass of wine before bed can help you lose weight. It is not the sole solution to your health problem.
Still, the best and most efficient way of losing weight is by increasing ones physical activity and by sticking to a well-balanced meal.
So don’t skip your cardio exercises and refrain from bingeing on calorie-rich food and drinks to help you reach your target weight!
Meanwhile, let us enjoy a toast of our favorite bed time drink to celebrate the wonderful effect of red wine to our body- cheers!
