Look at dog’s reaction change from confusion to excitement once he recognized his mom

Pets can feel really bad when their humans leave them for a few hours, right? So how would your dog feel if you have been away for army training?

Janna Berger, 20, and her lovely dog Murphy had to endure eight long months apart as she left for army training. The separation was necessary, but didn’t diminish devotion to each other in the slightest.

Berger said, “I thought about Murphy every day. Being away from him was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

The feeling was certainly mutual. While Berger was busy at basic and advanced army individual training, Murphy was temporarily homed with her parents in Salem, Ohio.

The dog was forlorn and slept outside Berger’s room in her parents’ house. Berger’s mom often wrote to say how mow much her dog missed her.

Berger related, “In the first letter my mom sent me, she told me about how every day since I’d left, Murphy waited outside the door to my room for me to come back.”

“I think I missed him more than my family, because I knew he didn’t know if I was ever coming back,” Berger added.

“My best friend went to my house one day, found Murphy sleeping outside my room, and got one of his paw prints on a piece of paper to mail to me. It hung inside my locker by a band-aid for the rest of basic.”

After her army training ended, Berger and Murphy were soon happily reunited. It would take the beloved dog a while to get over his shock though.

In a funny and heartwarming video of their much awaited and emotional reunion, Murphy apparently couldn’t believe that he was actually face to face with his much-missed mother.

In the first few moments of seeing Berger, the dog was barking and skittish, utterly bewildered that the person he had missed for so long was actually there in person.

Meeting the dog in her military uniform, the new look must have added to the dog’s confusion. Berger then followed her father’s suggestion to take her hat off so the dog can have a better look at her. Murphy ran around bewildered, seeking reassurance from Berger’s father.

He knelt down and comforted Murphy, and the dog moved closer to Berger, and let her gently stroke him.

After sniffing her out, the dog soon recovered and recognized the woman who faced him! He immediately excitedly jumped into Berger’s arms, and wouldn’t stop raining kisses on her.

He was simply beside himself with joy! “I had no idea Murphy would react the way he did!” Berger said. “When he didn’t recognize me at first, I was so heartbroken. The happiest moment of my life was when he finally figured out it was me.”

Since completing her army training, Berger has enrolled at university and is looking for a home to share with Murphy. The reunion is more or less permanent, and a long-term separation is not likely to happen again. “He’s been the light of my life for over three years now, and I’m hoping to have many more with him by my side.”
