Meet Ace. This cat is extremely special and sweet, however, people tend to be aloof towards the gentle tom because of one unique feature of his.
Ace was rescued as a stray kitten but shortly after, tragedy struck. The cat acquired an infection which led him to lose one eye. Though with a disability, Ace’s demeanor was never affected by it – he stayed positive and his zest for life remained intact. Sadly, however, his unusual appearance causes other people to judge him wrongly.
“He can sometimes seem scary, especially to children. People are often hesitant to greet him,” Norma Maikovich, Ace’s owner, told The Dodo.
But as Norma learned recently, that wasn’t true for everyone.
Ace frequently lounges on the porch out front and loved staying there. As a precaution, Norma set up a home security camera in the area to keep tabs on her beloved cat. But aside from Ace’s every move, the cameras captured something else that was beautiful and unexpected.
Norma was reviewing the video clip when she took notice of a child often hanging out on their front porch.
“When looking at the footage, we noticed one particular boy tends to visit almost every single day,” Norma said.
As it turns out, this young lad from the neighborhood pays frequent visits to spend time with the cat that almost everyone feared – Ace! Clearly, the boy feels otherwise. He loved the cat so much, and as the video clip suggests, the feeling between them was mutual.
“It melted our hearts, not just seeing how much Ace loves this boy, but how familiar they were to each other! Sitting by the front door, as soon as Ace sees his friend, he rushes out to greet him. It’s awesome, this bond they share,” Norma said.
Norma and her family were touched to know that someone considered Ace as a friend and valued him for what he truly is – an extremely gentle and sweet cat.
Just so the boy wouldn’t feel the need to be sneaky in his visits, Norma let him know that he is welcome to pet and play with Ace anytime that he wants.
“A friend of Ace’s is a friend of ours,” she said. “Once we realized that they were fast friends, it made us really happy.”
Of course, not everyone has the ability to look beyond the physical. Other people may still perceive Ace as the “scary” cat and avoid him for being different. But for this compassionate lad, his new friend is nothing like what others believe him to be. In fact, to him, he is the best.
“Ace isn’t a scary guy, and it just goes to show that appearances aren’t everything,” Norma said. “Seeing the footage of Ace and his buddy really proves that when given the chance of life and love and a family, animals with special needs and handicaps are worth it too.”
